The Selection

  1. Application Ingestion: Students submit entries mapping specific academic thresholds.
  2. Double-Tier Verification: The application is screened electronically first at the Institutional Level (by the School/College Principal) and subsequently validated at the District/State Nodal Officer layer.
  3. Merit List Formulation: Systems auto-generate merit tables for target schemes matching predefined cutoff rules and family income caps.
  4. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): Sanctioned funds are released directly into the student’s Aadhaar-linked bank account via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).

How to Complete the NSP Registration & Application Process

  1. Launch your web browser and open the official national scholarship interface: scholarships.gov.in.
  2. Generate OTR (One-Time Registration): Click the active link tracking “New Registration / OTR Portal”. Provide your operational mobile number and run the automated face authentication step using the official NSP OTR App and Aadhaar FaceRD utility on an Android device to establish your permanent profile reference number.
  3. Log In: Sign into the NSP system using your fresh Application ID and the password code dispatched to your smartphone.
  4. Form Profile Entries: Select your academic year cycle (Fresh 2026-27 or Renewal), and accurately input your active course parameters, institution code, aggregate previous marks, and family background metrics.
  5. Scheme Matching: The smart engine will auto-detect and display the list of specific scholarships your academic profile aligns with. Pick your target scheme carefully.
  6. Upload Documents: Attach crystal-clear scanned PDFs of your income papers, bonafide verification documents, and passbooks (Mandatory for scholarship claims greater than ₹50,000).
  7. Final Lock: Double-check your entered text blocks for typos. Hit the “Final Submit” button to permanently lock your profile.
  8. Print Record: Download the comprehensive acknowledgment summary form and turn it over to your institution’s nodal desks to prompt the digital verification step.

FAQs –

Q1. What is the last date to apply online on the National Scholarship Portal for the 2026-27 session?

Ans: The last date to apply for a majority of Central Sector and Ministry schemes on the NSP is October 31, 2026. However, some specific Pre-Matric configurations close earlier on August 31, 2026.

Q2. What is the NSP OTR (One-Time Registration) number?

Ans: The OTR is a unique, lifetime registration number mandatory for all students from the 2026-27 session onward. It remains valid throughout a student’s entire academic career, removing the need to register fresh accounts every year.

Q3. Is it mandatory for the applicant’s bank account to be linked with Aadhaar?

Ans: Yes, all scholarship disbursements are routed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The money will fail to credit if the student’s target bank account is not linked to their identity card records.

Q4. Can a student apply for multiple scholarship schemes simultaneously on the NSP?

Ans: A student can read guidelines for multiple options, but can ultimately receive benefit from only one single scholarship scheme per academic year. Duplicate selection processing triggers automated form rejection.

Q5. What happens if my school or college fails to verify my application before the deadline?

Ans: If the institutional verification deadline (November 15, 2026) lapses without your college profile manager approving your form online, your application will be treated as invalid, and you will become ineligible for the current year’s merit roster.
